Lake Erie continues its reputation as being the walleye capitol of the world. Western Lake Erie offers some of the finest walleye angling to be found.
Our season usually starts around the beginning of April. If you are looking for some really fast action then April is one of your best chances. However, the weather is unpredictable in April, and it is sometimes hard to hit a good day. If you get lucky though, it could be the memory of a lifetime. In May, the weather straightens out and the fishing becomes more predictable. May, June, and July are the peak months for numbers of fish. July often sees some of the fastest action, but the average size of fish runs smaller. We catch big walleye each month, but as the water warms it seems your chances go down. If you are just looking for a nice weather day with a chance to catch a lot of fish, try mid-May through the end of July.
August through mid-September are traditionally slow periods for Walleye. Mid-September through October can be your best shot for big walleye. The Reef Robber operates out of Huron in the fall, and trolling is often required. This is probably the best time of year to do a Walleye- Perch combo trip. Again, as in April, you are dealing with the weather and a mild fall can yield some very big fish and huge coolers
Smallmouth Bass Charters
Western Lake Erie has always been known for its great Bass fishing. Since the accidental introduction of the Zebra Muscle, the water clarity of Lake Erie has improved dramatically. This has increased the ability of the Smallmouth to spawn and feed and has led to an explosion in population. Many rate the western basin of Lake Erie as one of greatest Bass fishing areas
in the world.
Our Bass fishing begins the last Saturday of June and runs through the middle of September. Pound for pound, Smallmouth are the hardest fighting freshwater fish and are often referred to as "jumpers" because of the inclination to leap out of the water. Catches are normally very good. We recommend soft crawfish for Smallmouth fishing and they can be purchased at market price. . A one-day Canadian license can be purchased ahead of time by phone or on line. Because of the extra distance involved, there is an extra charge of $60.00 for Canadian trips and you should expect to be on the water 10 hours, if the bait holds up. This is a trip you will remember!

About August the perch begin to school up and the catching gets good. The action usually remains very good right up until the end of the season, the end of October. You should expect an average size of 8-10 inches, with a good number of 10-12 inch fish many days. Limits of perch are common. For Perch we offer a shorter 7-hour charter at a reduced rate. This is a very economical trip in which all tackle and bait are included for a much lesser rate than our full-day charter. Families and smaller groups find this very appealing because of the affordability. If you want to make a full price, 9-hour day of it, fall is an excellent time to do a combination trip of Perch and Walleye or Perch and Bass.
